01who is andrew?
Andrew is a tech builder and hardware tinkerer from Australia who does his best thinking from a chair. He designs the bridges between humans, hardware, and the networks that carry them - from care-mesh architectures that quietly look after people, to edge compute squeezed onto Jetson boards, to the humble MQTT packets that keep the whole thing talking.
He likes making things useful, and he likes a good joke about a packet that refuses to behave. Both happen more often than you'd think.
02operating system
Thinks best from a chair. The plans are big; the legs are optional.
Sees the whole loop, not just the node. If it connects, it counts.
Turns ideas into working things. Occasionally with solder involved.
Dry, self-deprecating, and delivered with a completely straight face.
03featured work
IoT architecture that connects people, places, and the systems that look after them. The actual bridge between the physical world and the people who care about it.
A mesh of small, watchful nodes that keep an eye on what matters - and tell someone the moment it stops behaving.
Pushing compute to the edge, where the action is. Small boards, real models, and answers fast enough to be useful.
The quiet protocol that lets everything talk to everything. Lightweight, reliable, and endlessly hackable.
04current status
A live-ish readout from the bench. Values are demo telemetry, for the vibes - the only thing measured for real is the coffee.
status: nominal (mostly). works on my bench.
05hobbies & bench notes
Soldered a thing. The thing now works. Nobody was more surprised than me.
Taught a sensor to talk MQTT. It now has opinions about the weather.
Built a mesh of care nodes. They check on each other so humans don't have to.
More cables than is strictly necessary. The drawer is a metaphor.
Made something useful out of something that was definitely not useful.
Jetson said no. I said yes. We compromised.

If you build things, or break things in interesting ways, or just want to talk about a packet that refused to behave - say hello. The handle you found this on is the fastest way to reach me.
